Moving across London

Our first load sans car, just to get suitcases across the city. The next two car loads will be what we've accumulated since we got here.

Japanese Farewell

Saying good bye to Sam and Jane at a Japanese restaurant in Soho.

London Zoo

Notting Hill Carnival - Children's Day

The carnival is to unite community, check out the boarded up windows on every business and house, in case that unity gets out of control?

Recycle and Reuse Centre

Our recycle bin was stolen so a trip to the recycle centre is hopefully not the highlight of this long weekend.

Thursday 21 August 2008

Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing

Our house, in the middle of our street.

Ours is the three windows above L'Amandine but not for much longer.
Today our application for a new flat across the city got approved and we're set to move on Saturday 30th - that is after I give them a three month bond (£1950).

Rice Heaven

London has so much to offer, but sometimes its the simple things that you miss. While you make space for the Edmonds in your case you don't consider the cheese slice, vege peeler or kitchen spring back tongues. I was overjoyed yesterday be reunited with a packet of rice crackers, the guilt free alternative to salt and vinegar crisps (which I also can't find in a ruffle cut!) and no longer impossible to find.

Vapiano's for lunch

At first the system at this place confused us - when you get to the door they hand each person a pamphlet sized menu and a card and explain to the first person the system. We grabbed a table then went up to the pizza ordering area, swiped our card (kinda like an oyster), placed our order and given one of those buzzy remote things. Basically the card works as an individual tab system, which avoids bill splitting and also makes you feel like you're not spending any money while enjoying the food and drinks. For the centre of the London shopping district it was pretty cheap and we had food within ten minutes - I'd totally recommend it and it's apparently all through Europe.

The Hardest Button To Button

On my lunch break I accidentally fell into a store, grabbing a few sales items to try on as I fell towards the changing rooms. This personal help button cracked me up - there were only about 6 changing cubicles - not really enough to warrant a button over the old head-through-the-curtain-for-help approach.

Oxford Street

Another kiwi goodbye - Sid heads to Africa for four months while his new visa is processed.

Tuesday 12 August 2008

Delays on Victoria Line, trespasser on the tracks at Wimbledon.

After a less than fantastic day, the commute home was a sardine style affair. I closed my eyes and envisaged sunbathing on Coogee beach.

Hammersmith Leaving Party

Steve, Vicki and Kev - the two year visa takes another two friends homeward.

Friday 8 August 2008

Penny for them

Remember 1 and 2 cent coins, they were only ever useful for lollie purchases.

Thursday 7 August 2008

Yellow like money

I no longer heart GPS - I have just received a £60 fine for failing to pay a congestion charge last Thursday.

Sunday 3 August 2008

Tatton Park Gardens

It's probably worth noting, not all photos are taken using the camera on my phone.

Friday 1 August 2008

Lancashire Milk Bottles

I heart GPS

To get to north London from the south the GPS sent me via Park Lane and Marble Arch, just skirtting the congestion charge. And the temp on the dash got up to 30 degrees, with the aircon not working.
